During its Build 2014 conference this week, Microsoft officially unveiled the Windows Phone 8.1, which will come with a number of features.

The first of these features is a Siri-like personal assistance, based upon the character Cortana from the Halo franchise. It replaces the search function originally featured on Windows Phone, as she is powered by Bing.

In addition, a new Action Center keeps track of things on your phone, including the battery percentage, four customizable buttons and notifications from applications.

Finally, users can fiddle with the home screen to customize it however they please, with more tiles and configurations available. A new Word Flow keyboard will also make it easy to send messages and other details to fellow users.

The update will ship in devices in “very late April or early May.”
