Nielsen may have found a way to incorporate mobile viewing into measuring its ratings on television programs.

The company’s new software, Syncbak, enables it to be used with its applications, allowing broadcasters the opportunity to measure local TV viewing through smartphones and tablets, rather than just televisions. The mobile audiences from these devices will begin to be counted sometime later this year, as part of a program’s overall ratings.

Since audiences have begun transitioning from regular televisions to mobile devices to watch their favorite programs, Nielsen has been trying to find a way to measure their viewership, while still keeping tabs on the old medium. Syncbak will certainly enable it to do so.
