Mel Gibson Gets Hangover 2 Role

Reports are that Mel Gibson will be appearing in Hangover 2. He will apparently take on the role of a tattoo artist that inks up one of the main characters during their romp of debauchery.

The tongue-in-cheek role is no doubt positioned to get Gibson back in the public’s good graces after his angry, racist rants directed at his girlfriend were made public. Hangover 2 will star Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha who are partying this time in Bangkok, Thailand.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Goes Off-Road With Jeep

Jeep announced today an “exclusive automotive partner” with Activision for Call of Duty: Black Ops. As a result, Jeep will release a new limited-edition 2011 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition for $30,625 for the two-door model and $33,500 for the four-door.

“The Jeep brand’s partnership with Activision marries the world’s most capable and iconic vehicle – the Jeep Wrangler – with one of the world’s most popular entertainment experiences,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group. “As a result, we are able to expose the Jeep brand and its legendary capability to an entirely new group of consumers.”

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition is based on the Wrangler Rubicon model, with dark Rubicon wheels in a high-gloss Mineral Gray. The vehicle’s exterior color is black and features Call of Duty: Black Ops graphics on the roof and front panels, with taillamp guards and a fuel-filler door from Mopar. Apparently “inspired by Call of Duty: Black Ops” it also contains 32-inch off-road tires, live axles with locking differentials in the front and rear, and a two-speed transfer case.

“This is a dynamic and fully integrated partnership that brings together two iconic brands across a full array of consumer touch-points,” stated Brad Jakeman, Chief Marketing Officer, Activision Publishing, Inc. “From the beginning our teams worked together to make this a truly creative partnership that added to the consumer experience of both the Jeep and Call of Duty: Black Ops brands.”

“It was important for us to make sure that the Jeep partnership would be authentic and enhance the setting we immerse our fans in with Black Ops,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of game developer Treyarch. “Our work with the Jeep team focused around using the Jeep Wrangler in our levels, and gameplay experiences, and translating the style and look of the vehicle in Black Ops to the Jeep on the showroom floor that our fans can own.”

Red debuted in second with $22.5 million, while The Social Network continued its strong returns with $11 million, good enough for third. Secretariat and Life as We Know It took in $9.5 million and $9.2 million for fourth and fifth place respectively.

Apple CEO Disses Seven-Inch Tablets

While some might be waiting for a smaller version of the iPad to come out from Apple, CEO Steve Jobs threw some ice water on such expectations. “We think the current crop of seven-inch tablets are going to be DOA dead on arrival,” said Jobs during a conference call.

“I’d like to comment on the ‘avalanche’ of tablets poised to enter the market in the coming months,” said Jobs. “First, it appears to be just a handful of credible entrants not exactly an avalanche. One naturally thinks that a seven-inch screen would offer 70 per cent of the benefits of a 10-inch screen. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth.”

Giving his audience a refresher course in plane geometry, he continued: “The screen measurements are diagonal, so that a seven-inch screen is only 45 per cent as large as iPad’s 10-inch screen. You heard me right just 45 per cent as large.”

He stated that this size, “Isn’t sufficient to create great tablet apps, in our opinion.”

“While one could increase the resolution of the display to make up for some of the difference, it is meaningless unless your tablet also includes sandpaper so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of their present size, Jobs noted. “We really understand this stuff. There are clear limits on how close you can physically place elements on a touchscreen before users cannot reliably tap, flick, or pinch them.”

“Their manufacturers will learn the painful lesson that their tablets are too small and [they’ll] increase the size next year, thereby abandoning both customers and developers who jumped on the seven-inch bandwagon,” he predicted.
