IPhone 4 Heads Off To Verizon

Apple and Verizon have officially confirmed that consumers will be able to get a Verizon version of the iPhone 4. The device can be pre-ordered on February 3 for $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB, with its release coming a week later on February 10.

Talks have apparently been ongoing with both sides since 2008. “Today we’re partnering with a giant of the industry, and that’s Apple,” said Verizon Chief Operating Officer Lowell McAdam at a press conference in New York City.

The antenna has been changed to conform to CDMA networks and it is not based upon LTE because of immediate demand for the headset. “Verizon Wireless customers have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on iPhone 4, and we think they are going to love it,” said Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook. “We have enormous respect for the company Verizon has built and the loyalty they have earned from their customers.”

“We are pleased to introduce millions of wireless users to the industry leading iPhone 4 on the nation’s most reliable network,” added McAdam. “This is an important step for the industry as two great companies join forces to give wireless customers one of the most important technological additions to the mobile landscape this century.”

Hobbit Gets Frodo, Gandalf, Gollum

While The Hobbit takes place chronologically before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, rumors have been running about that Frodo Baggins might make an appearance. Reports are that the protagonist of the Lord of the Rings will appear in the film, though not in a way people might initially think.

As readers of ‘The Hobbit’ know, the tale of ‘The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit or There and Back Again,’ are contained in the fictional ‘Red Book of Westmarch,’ ” writes TheOneRing.net. In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the book is shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch hence the book’s title.)

The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers are to learn the tale of The Hobbit as a familiar Frodo gets the tale as well, the post continues. Since the speculation is now everywhere around the interwebs, TORn can confirm that as of now, the plans are to feature Frodo in the opening sequence of the films. It is unlikely that studio Warner Bros. or Team Jackson would change the script at this point in response to the web buzz so we may have just ‘spoiled’ December 2012 for some, but we warned you. (And, sat on the spoiler until leaks started to appear!)

Additionally, it is confirmed that Ian McKellen has signed on to return as wizard Gandalf and Andy Serkis will reprise Gollum. While Cate Blanchett is coming back as Galadriel, Hugo Weaving s Elrond and Orlando Bloom’s Legolas have not been confirmed.

APB: Reloaded Accepting Closed Beta Applications

GamersFirst is now accepting submissions for the APB: Reloaded’s upcoming closed beta. The first step is to submit an email to GamersFirst and create a GamersFirst account.

But then it gets a little trickier, writes GamersFirst. About 2 weeks before the closed beta (which probably means on or about the first week in February), you will receive an email sent to the address you submitted above. That email will have a unique link where you will go to activate your beta request. In order to do so you will be asked to submit a lot of additional data, among other things your DxDiag (if you don’t know that is, then you might not be a great closed beta candidate) and some additional information about you, as well as about your system and your own background as a gamer. Once we have verified the data, we will then send you back your actual beta key. If you feel like you don’t want to share the additional data being asked of you, you can always back out of the process, and just ask to be notified about the Open Beta when that’s ready instead.

GamersFirst indicates they have received 20,000 emails expressing interest in the free-to-play MMO. They hope to have between 6,000 – 8,000 players for the closed beta, with 800 players online at peak times.
