GTA V Trailer Shows ‘Different Experience’ Than Saints Row, Says THQ

Grand Theft Auto V made a big splash with its recently revealed trailer, which left some wondering whether THQ and Saints Row: The Third should be worried. However, THQ CEO Brian Farrell likes the placement of the game now compared to GTA V sometime next year, and notes the two games a very different.

“The GTA trailer is a high-quality trailer, but it shows the completely different positioning of the two games,” said Farrell. “A very different experience. The Saints Row: The Third trailer shows all the crazy stuff in the game, and if you read the forums, people love it.”

Steven Spielberg’s Project LMNO Sunk By Lack Of Direction

Steven Spielberg conceived of the basic concept of a man escaping with an alien woman away from government agents, but he did not get involved in the nitty-gritty of game development for Project LMNO. The lack of any concrete direct may have sunk the project.

“It was about a relationship between two characters and some aspect of that relationship they had an idea for, generally, like: ‘We want to have this other game system in here but we haven’t developed it at all, we haven’t even designed it . . . Jason, think of something. What would you stick in here ‘,” said independent developer Jason Rohrer. “So, I came up with ideas that were totally not what they expected and totally interesting to them, prototyped some of them, and then I stopped hearing from them. A couple of months later I heard they were all getting laid off.”

“Spielberg was of course the big creative vision behind the whole thing but he wasn’t even there! He would come in every week or so and meet with them and see what they were doing, but he wasn’t there when I was there and I never got to talk to him or see him or anything,” he added. “He wasn’t being very hands-on, so it was kind of Doug and Randy trying to interpret his vision and show things to him and it kind of felt like it lacked direction. That’s what I would say. Maybe that’s why it kind of failed in the end.”

China Becoming World’s Second-Largest Ad Market

China’s economy is like an engine that just won’t stop, thanks to multitudes of government investments and a large amount of eager consumers. Now a major advertising firm is predicting it will be their second largest market.

“I would anticipate that China would become our third market quite quickly and within a few years will be our second-largest market,” said WPP chief executive Martin Sorrell.

Right now, mainland China is WPP’s fourth-largest market for revenue, behind only U.S., Britain, and Germany. The greater Chinese market that includes Hong Kong and Taiwan is worth around $1.1 billion.

The company is launching a new school of marketing and communications in Shanghai to reflect the growth of the market. Sorrell says the three-year course will help develop local talent and foster more loyalty within the industry.

“The problem with our industry is that people believe the way you develop talent is by stealing it,” said Sorrell. “Our competitors, especially the ones who are desperate, are especially adept at stealing talent.”

There will be 50 students in this year’s inaugural class. “We will provide internships and offer employment after graduation based on each student’s performance,” said Sorrell. “Graduates are not guaranteed positions, much like the real world.”
