Kazuo Hirai, Representative Corporate Executive Officer and Executive Deputy President of Sony Corporation, has issued a statement to the U.S. House Commerce Committee detailing his company’s response to the PSN data breach. He said the company has been “the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack designed to steal personal and credit card information for illegal purposes.”
Sony has announced that 77 million PSN accounts saw personal data stolen and another 24.6 million older online gaming accounts from SOE were also compromised. Both services have been shut down while Sony improves internal security and investigates the attacks.
