Funcom has announced that their Age of Conan MMO will be going free-to-play in around the same time the 2011 movie Conan the Barbarian releases. The name of the game will be changed to Age of Conan: Unrated with a content update related to the movie coming around the same time

“The time is right for Age of Conan now as we recognized the opportunity presented by the increased profile of the license, with the new Conan movie coming out this fall,” said executive producer Craig Morrison. “This is done by allowing free players [access] to most of the original content, and having the expanded content as premium content. So free players will have access to all the original leveling quests and outdoor playfields that take them all the way to level 80.”
