Proving that movie-goers were in the mood for frights and 3D films, Saw 3D took in $22.5 million during its opening weekend. In second place was Paranormal Activity 2 with $16.5 million, with the sequel already looking to do better than the first film.
Comic-based movie Red continued its solid run with $10.8 million, followed by Jackass 3D in foruth place with $8.4 million. The Clint Eastwood film Hereafter, decidedly more heady than the rest, finished the weekend in fifth place with $6.3 million.
