Sony Computer Entertainment Australia was recently granted a temporary injunction blocking the importation and sales of new PS3 modchips. They will have until August 31 to convince Australian Federal Court that the devices are in fact illegal.

Distributors of the modchips will have to give their stock to Sony until the August 31 deadline. The issue is somewhat dicey in Australia, since their Supreme Court ruled that modchips were legal in the country, though Nintendo banned R4 carts.
