First getting its start in 2006, the Nintendo Wii console has had a fairly good run, with over 100 million units sold. However, the time may be nearing when no more units will be added to that total.

A Nintendo of Europe representative confirmed through Eurogamer that the system will stop being produced in Japan in the near future. That’s not to say it won’t continue to be made in other markets, as it’s still fairly popular, particularly in the U.S. and Canada.

“This specific message was referring to the Japanese market,” the representative said in regards to a notice on Nintendo’s Japanese site. “No specific time frame has been stated yet. We have made no specific announcements for Europe regarding Wii production.”

There’s no word from other Nintendo divisions in regards to the conclusion of Wii production. The company stopped releasing first-party games for the system last year with the introduction of the new Wii U console.
