Zombies are shuffling all over Hollywood and Madison Avenue, so why not Main Street A Pennsylvania construction company is taking a clever spin on Halloween-themed marketing by dedicating its usual do-it-yourself blog to preparing for a zombie invasion.
It fits. CB Structures specializes in pole barns, those easy to build, hard to bring down symbols of modern rural Americana. The family-owned business runs a blog on its site that usually delivers useful tips for customers. Go there now and sitting atop entries on modern garages and custom barns is the authoritatively titled, “The Comprehensive Plan for Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse from your Pole Barn.” The post comes complete with a video game-looking screen shot of zombies ambling towards a top-of-the-line pole barn.
To support the effort, CB hired a PR agency. Their rep told us that they’ve managed to generate coverage on zombie fan sites and kick up decent social media activity for them. Their pitch to us started with, “I noticed you tend to write about zombies from time to time.”
As for the blog, it was written by CB Structures, and it’s a deft attempt at writing humor. The comedy is subtle, mostly rooted in just how thoroughly and somewhat seriously they approach the subject matter. It’s smart, starting with different ways to fortify a pole barn with accoutrements offered by CB, perhaps prompting someone to draw the line from zombie preparation to some practical application. One of the funniest sections covers advice on who to let into the survivor party.

It reads, “As with everything in life, it’s all about the people you know. The last thing you want to do it (sic) be holed up with a useless, hysterical mob. Stay away from… people in the entertainment industry… people in useless white collar trades like SEO, marketing professionals, accountants, and salesmen.”
That’s good old country wisdom right there.
