Nintendo US head Reggie Fils-Aime has told BusinessWeek that the game industry should not expect hardware upgrades to Wii in the near future. He said there will be no major hardware announcements from Nintendo in the coming months, adding that includes no major unveilings planned for the Game Developers Conference in March. Fils-Aime added that the console has a very long life ahead of it, with Nintendo still prepping more high-caliber games for the system from big franchises Mario and Metroid. BusinessWeek says industry analysts largely believe Nintendo will eventually need to upgrade hardware to compete with more technically capable consoles PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
