Reports are that Sony has been openly pitching the PSP2 and claiming that the device is as powerful as the PlayStation 3. The company is apparently appealing to publishers to make richer, more in-depth content to make the PSP2 stand out compared to smartphone devices.
The initial reveal is planned for January 27, with more details coming at GDC and E3 2011. The device will also have download functions for smaller games and apps to go along with physical media releases. And while PSP2 shouldn’t be confused with the still as yet unannounced PlayStation Phone, there’s a chance it will sport some phone functionality too.
