Digital game content distributor Stardock has estimated that Valve s Steam service owns about 70 percent of the digital distribution market. Speaking to Gamasutra, Stardock’s Brad Wardell says that by their estimate his company s service, Impulse, runs ten percent of the market while other services such as Direct2Drive and GamersGate have about a 20 percent share. The rest belongs to Steam. He cites Valve’s success with getting Steamworks licensed as a digital rights management solution for major publishers such as Activision, THQ and Sega as having helped Steam corner the market. Wardell estimates that digital content will account for about 25 percent of PC publishers revenues in 2009. Read more at Gamasutra.
