Google today formally announced at their I/O Conference the Wave communications platform.  It’s said to be a more open email platform for collaborative exchanges to help productivity for workers.

“We are going to open up Wave to everyone today,” said Google Wave team chief Lars Rasmussen. “Wave really shines as a place to get work done.”

Google has been testing Wave in a beta since September 2009, with features that merge email, online chat, social networking and group editing access to Web pages or documents similar to the wiki method.

“You can have 12 people interacting in a Wave at the same time without people talking over each other or stepping on each others’ toes,” said Google Wave product manager Gregory D’Alesandre. “We really believe this is a better way to communicate; where technology is going.”
