According to Nielsen, social networking now takes up more time than any other online activity. Social networks like Facebook and Twitter take up 22.7 percent of time spent on the web, up over 40 percent from last year.

Online games were the second highest rated activity for time, taking up 10.2 percent of time online. E-mail fell from 11.5 percent of time online to 8.3 percent from June 2009 to June 2010, but it’s gone up on mobile phones, from 37.4 percent to 41.6 percent, perhaps an indication of greater smartphone use.
