Google Chairman Eric Schmidt indicates that the company will not create a Google Maps app for the Apple App Store. iOS 6 and iPhone 5 prominently do not include Google Maps, which had been a feature on the iPhone since the smartphone first launched in 2007.

The new Apple Maps app does offer new features, including 3-D maps, advanced live traffic updates and voice navigation. On the flipside, Apple Maps doesn’t support directions for public transportation and many have been frustrated with its apparent lack of accuracy.

“In my opinion it would have been better to retain our maps,” said Schmidt. “It’s their decision, I’ll let them describe it.”
