IMVU Shifts To Gaming

IMVU announced that it is moving away from virtual worlds to focus on social gaming. Hoping to tap into trends in social networking, they will offer 75 games to their community of more than 50 million registered users.

Viximo, Heyzap and OMGPOP have all partnered with IMVU to offer some of their games.  IMVU has traditionally allowed users to create their own customizable virtual places and avatars and will now allow users to integrate those popular elements into various games.

It’s a broader pivot for us into social entertainment, said Cary Rosenzweig, CEO of IMVU. Online entertainment, especially gaming, has grown up.

Right now, the company is faring well with its virtual goods that it sells for customization, so they see this change as a logical next step. We look forward to the integration of our enormous catalog of virtual items into our games, Rosenzweig said.
