Myspace Rebrands

Myspace has revealed their new brand, website and a suite of products in an attempt to redefine the struggling but still popular social networking company. The new style is very indie and the logo features an actual space.

This marks the beginning of an exciting turning point for Myspace, said Mike Jones, CEO of Myspace. Our new strategy expands on Myspace s existing strengths a deep understanding of social, a wealth of entertainment content and the ability to surface emerging cultural trends in real time through our users.

Users can now change the way they find content on Myspace, and the whole site design has been changed to be simpler and streamlined. Along with new topics, hubs and tabs to better convey information to users, there is also a reward system in badges that rewards fans for their social interactions.

Myspace is unique in that it is powered by the passions of our users, who program the site by expressing interests, sharing tastes and knowledge around particular topics, and scouting out up-and-coming subcultures,’ added Jones. This is just the first step and there will be many more features, programs and improvements to come.

IPhone 4 Won’t Be White For Christmas

When the iPhone 4 was first announced, the white version was going to launch later in July. Then Apple moved the release date back to late in 2010, but now it won’t make it out this year.

“We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we’ve decided to delay its release until this spring, read the official release by Apple.

Apple has cited “manufacturing challenges” in the delays of the white iPhone 4, but hasn’t been any more specific.

Sony Talks Limitations Of PSP As A Wi-Fi Device

The PlayStation Phone images that have appeared on the internet have been hotly debated, and Sony has waffled while commenting on the device. While Sony Computer Entertainment of America senior VP Peter Dille wouldn’t say whether or not the PlayStation Phone was real, he did note that the lack of a constant 3G data connection may have held the PSP back.

“The PSP is a Wi-Fi device,” he said. “People are used to having always-connected devices.”

While the home PlayStation consoles have had a ten-year life span, Dille notes that “the portable market moves so fast. Since the PSP launched in 2004, the iPhone has released and changed portable gaming forever with the App Store.

Still, Dille doesn’t think the iPhone offers what core gamers really want. “These are largely time-killers. Gamers aren’t satisfied with that.”

Dille also noted that the PSP is not always connected to the PlayStation Network, a key online gaming and entertainment hub for Sony. “I don’t think we fully realize that vision with a Wi-Fi device,” said Dille. “If it’s not connected [to a cell network] then it does sort of limit people.”

Saw 3D Cuts To The Top

Proving that movie-goers were in the mood for frights and 3D films, Saw 3D took in $22.5 million during its opening weekend. In second place was Paranormal Activity 2 with $16.5 million, with the sequel already looking to do better than the first film.

Comic-based movie Red continued its solid run with $10.8 million, followed by Jackass 3D in foruth place with $8.4 million. The Clint Eastwood film Hereafter, decidedly more heady than the rest, finished the weekend in fifth place with $6.3 million.

Microsoft Confident In Kinect Titles, Despite Reviews

The Wii has had a number of titles that haven’t necessarily had the best review scores around, but still ended up being a mainstream success. Aaron Greenberg, Chief of Staff for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, thinks that many Kinect titles are on the same sort of path.

For us, these are different types of titles and experiences than maybe some of the games traditionally that are targeted to the core market, said Greenberg. So the correlation between a review score for Halo: Reach and sales is very high, but Kinect Sports is more about just having fun.

I don’t know how reviewers will grade those games because they’re so unique and so different to what the reviewers have played with controllers, he added. We’d love to see great reviews but I don’t think you’ll see the same type of correlation between reviews and actual sales of the game, would be my guess.
