Facebook — Half Of Americans Don’t Click On Ads

An Associated Press-CNBC poll revealed that half of Americans think that Facebook is a passing fad. Furthermore, only a third think the $100 billion valuation of the company is appropriate and half thinks it’s too high.

At the same time, half think that the stock will be a good investment, while 31 percent do not. Age plays a factor, and the younger the person surveyed, the more likely they are to think it’s a good investment.

Use is also inverse to age, with 81 percent between 18 and 35 having an account but only 21 percent of senior citizens using the site. 55 percent of 30 year olds are on Facebook every day and a third log on several times a day.

Still, 51 percent of young adults predict Facebook’s appeal will fade down the road, and only 44 percent think it will stick around as a service. Just under half of adults (46 percent) predict a short timeline for Facebook, while 43 percent say it has staying power.

Only 13 percent trust Facebook to guard their data, and only 12 percent would feel safe making purchases through the site, a statistic reflected in the site’s heaviest users. 57 percent of users say they never click on ads or on Facebook’s sponsored content and about another quarter say they rarely do.
