Xbox 360 Refreshed

One of the biggest surprises at Microsoft’s E3 press conference was the revelation of a new Xbox 360. With a 250 GB hard disk and 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless networking built in, the new model will cost $299, the same price as the current Xbox 360 with a 120 GB hard drive.

Perhaps an even bigger shocker was the revelation that the new model would be available at retail as soon as tomorrow. Those lucky enough to be in attendance at the press conference also will have the new Xbox 360 shipped to their homes.

AT&T Apologizes For iPad Data Leak

AT&T is issuing a blanket apology for the security breach that uncovered the emails of tens of thousands of iPad owners. The telecom said that hackers “maliciously exploited” a network ability to obtain ICC-IDs of AT&T SIM cards for the iPad 3G and their corresponding email addresses.

This incident uncovered the fact that several prominent people use the iPad, including executives at Google, Amazon, Microsoft and high ranking personnel in the U.S. Senate, Department of Justice and FCC. AT&T says that the security hole has already been plugged.

For its part, the group that uncovered the exploit said AT&T “is being dishonest about the potential for harm” from the security hole it has exposed.

Take-Two, 3D Realms Suit Settled

After one year of litigation, the ongoing legal matter between Take-Two and 3D Realms has been resolved. Take-Two’s charge that 3D Realms was in breach of contract for failing to deliver Duke Nukem Forever and 3D Realms’ counter-suit have been dismissed.

“We can confirm that the matter has been resolved, and the company is not providing additional details of the agreement,” said Alan Lewis, VP of Corporate Communications at Take-Two.

3D Realms let go all of its internal development staff for Duke Nukem Forever in May 2009 after over a dozen years in development.

AdMob Blasts Apple’s iPhone Metrics Decision

Apple recently changed the license agreement whereby advertisers could no longer share information gathered on the iPhone with their clients. This move seems mostly designed to damage Google’s AdMob and they’re not happy about it.

“Let’s be clear. This change is not in the best interests of users or developers,” wrote Omar Hamoui, founder and CEO of AdMob. “In the history of technology and innovation, it’s clear that competition delivers the best outcome. Artificial barriers to competition hurt users and developers and, in the long run, stall technological progress.”

“Since I started AdMob in 2006, I have watched competition in mobile advertising help drive incredible growth and innovation in the overall ecosystem.  We ve worked to help developers make money, regardless of platform iPhone, Android, Palm Pre, Blackberry, Windows, and others. In the past four years, AdMob has helped tens of thousands of developers make money and build real businesses across multiple operating systems,” continued Hamoui. “I’ve personally worked with many iPhone app developers around the world, including one who created a fun and simple game in the early days of the App Store. He built the app because he was interested in the challenge. He built this single app into a multi-million dollar advertising revenue stream with AdMob, hired a whole team, and turned a hobby into a real business.”

“We see these stories all the time.  We want to help make more of them, so we ll be speaking to Apple to express our concerns about the impact of these terms,” he concluded.

3DS Reportedly Will Have Analog Stick

According to sources, the 3DS will have two screens, but the top screen of the system will be much larger. The top screen will also house the 3D imagery, with the bottom screen functioning like a touch pad on the original DS.

Another report says that the 3DS will come housed with a camera, quite possibly with 3D capabilities. The system will have carts like a Compact Flash card, which is proprietary to the system.

A tilt sensor or accelerometer is expected to be part of the system. Probably the biggest revelation, however, is that the system will have a short analog stick, not a nub like the PSP.
