Rooster Teeth Premieres Interactive Murder Mystery Web Series

By Jessica Klein

Rooster Teeth has premiered its latest web series, “Ten Little Roosters,” a murder mystery that involves the Rooster Teeth staff and invites viewers to get involved.

So far, only episode one is available on Rooster Teeth’s video platform, which rings in the series with a plot akin to the Agatha Christie novel, “And Then There Were None.”

The interactive part comes in when viewers get to pick out who they believe is the killer in episode one. The catch is that you need a Rooster Teeth account to participate. Voting on the suspect will be open to the network’s members until the next episode, which will arrive on Tuesday, November 11.

Snapchat Reaches Out To Potential Partners

Snapchat, the popular social app that enables people to share pictures and other information with one another, may be looking to partner up with bigger and better companies to gain some exposure.

Digiday has reported that the company behind the popular social application has reached out to Comedy Central, Spotify and Vice as a possible tie-in with the forthcoming launch of Discover, a new section of the program that will enable users the opportunity to view articles, music and video that tie in with said companies.

In addition, as you can see from the mock-up art, the company has also been talking with other companies, including BuzzFeed, CNN, the Daily Mail, ESPN, National Geographic, Time Inc. (publishers of People Magazine), Hearst (Cosmopolitan Magazine) and popular YouTube music video service VEVO.

With this move, Snapchat is looking to shift into a larger area for media distribution, while opening up a possible revenue circle for the growing site. After all, it’s become quite popular, despite controversies surrounding certain photographic content that’s being shared (such as porn-related pictures).

With the promotional tie-ins, Snapchat would strengthen its service to be more on a casual level, especially if such companies as Hearst and National Geographic are in discussions. Both provide publications that are not only rich in visual content, but articles as well.

Through Discover, Snapchat is asking its potential partners to provide original content that fits into the style of the service. As a result, media companies would benefit in advertising in a different manner than usual sites, while Snapchat would obviously pocket a small portion of the revenue that generates from said ads.

There’s also no limitation in terms of the length of content on Discover. Snapchat isn’t looking for “bite-size” stories, as it will reportedly have no limit through the service in terms of how big a story can be.

It’ll be interesting to see who jumps on board the Discover service, as well as it does for Snapchat’s growing user base. Perhaps it’ll even expand it more, if the content is on the right track. Only time will tell at this rate.

CREATIVE: The Top Viral Ads For October

With October officially behind us, Mashable has compiled the ten most effective viral ads for the month, which includes everything from soccer stars to cursing little girls to…Hobbits Indeed, a peculiar month, but a fun one nevertheless.

In the spirit of celebrating feminism, FCKH8.com invited several little girls to drop complaints while dressed like princesses. But these aren’t just any sort of complaints – they’re straight-up “F-bombs.” (They’re bleeped out in the video, but expect a whole lot of them.)

BBC Music celebrated the iconic Beach Boys classic “God Only Knows”, but with a full orchestra and an all-star cast of singers. Those that are fans of musical treats will certainly get a kick out of this one. Keep on the lookout for Chris Martin from Coldplay, Elton John and a handful of others.

In an effort to advertise its new No.5 fragrance, Chanel introduced a stylish music video under the name “The One That I Want.” While not as star-studded as BBC Music’s ad, it definitely has a style all its own.

There are air safety videos, and then there’s New Zealand’s air safety video, which goes all out with a trip to Middle-Earth, complete with an appearance by Elijah Wood and plenty of locales from Peter Jackson’s classic film trilogies.

This simple little ad features singer Taylor Swift playing with her kittens while enjoying a tasty Diet Coke. Pretty soon, however, she finds herself overwhelmed with company. (Maybe she should’ve bought a twelve-pack )

Think soccer is a typical sport Think again. This ad from Adidas features soccer teams going at it in a fierce rivalry, featuring unique animation styles that make it look far more dramatic than your usual televised game.

Volkwagen decided to spread a very realistic message with its latest ad, explaining the dangers of texting while driving through a unique theater experience. It’s a bit jarring, but the message it’s delivering definitely hits home.

Peugeot wasted no time getting the attention of car fans with this action-packed commercial, featuring the 208 GTi making a glorious return to the driving scene.

Finally, KLM’s newest ad focuses on the Lost and Found team at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, who help customers attempt to reunite with lost items as quickly as they possibly can. It’s a pretty fun video, especially when you see customers become whole again with their lost goods.

Rupert Murdoch Thinks Hollywood Needs Hulu To Compete With Netflix, Amazon

By Sahil Patel

Rupert Murdoch, who owns a decent portion of the global TV industry, sees the growth of Netflix and Amazon as major threats to the future health of the TV business. One way to counter that growth, he believes, is to invest more in the streaming service that the traditional-media giants already own: Hulu.

Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event last week, Murdoch said (via Deadline) that as an industry, TV needs “a competitor, a serious competitor, to Netflix and Amazon.”

Top 5 Emerging News Channels On YouTube

By Jessica Klein

Getting news on YouTube may still sound like a joke to, say, your grandparents, but more and more news outlets are popping up on the platform that deliver high-quality current events coverage while appealing to younger viewers.

As Carlos Restrepo, the head of business development at Outrigger Media, puts it, “The News & Politics category is one of most powerful on YouTube to demonstrate the quality of native producers. We consistently see channels like The Young Turks and SourceFed top traditional media outlets like CNN and New York Times in this vertical.”

Though a version of CNN does make this emerging channels list (which was created using Outrigger’s Emerging Talent Tracker tool), most of the others eschew typical news coverage for a cheekier, more creative, and frankly more fun approach.

CREATIVE: Honda Shows You ‘The Other Side’

In order to fully experience Honda’s newest ad, you’ll have to watch it twice. Completely skinning Honda’s YouTube page, Honda shows that there’s definitely 2 sides to the Civic with an elaborate interactive experience where you are able to revert from the story of a family man and the gripping proceedings of a (we won’t spoil it) crime.

When the video finishes, you are able to slide to view either the Civic or the Civic Type R Concept and are prompted to share on social. The whole ad is a brilliant and cinematic way to display the features of both vehicles in a way that doesn’t feel like any other car ad.

See the hard edges and the soft side of the Civic on Honda’s YouTube page here.

For Millennials, Halloween Means Business

Gearing up for the holiday season Don’t forget about Halloween. According to Digiday, Halloween is now the second-highest grossing holiday after Christmas. That’s $6.9 billion spent on costume, decor, food sales, movies, music and more. Moreover, for millennials, Halloween is the holiday of chief importance.

A study conducted by ooVoo showed that Halloween is the #1 most favorite holiday for the storied age group. Couple that fact with millennials being the most active demographic on social media and what would really be frightening this Halloween is leaving that engagement on the table.

Halloween stirs up some oppportunities for a dialogue specific to the holiday. The conversation is largely fueled by DIY, self-expression and of course, nostalgia,

CREATIVE: Top Trailers For The Week: October 29

It’s time for another round of Top Trailers For the Week, highlighting the best features in TV, movies and video games. We’ve got a full batch of selections for you this week, so let’s get started.

Hot on the heels of last week’s trailer debut (and the revealing of a larger Marvel universe yesterday), The Avengers: Age of Ultron got an exclusive sneak peek that premiered last night on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This one features Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and other Avengers attempting to lift Thor’s hammer, with somewhat humorous results. The joke doesn’t last long, though, as the devastating Ultron (James Spader) eventually makes his presence known. The Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters on May 1st.

Not letting the Avengers have all the fun, Hayley Atwell’s Agent Carter also got a debut of her own last night, with a teaser for the forthcoming series that will debut in ABC in early 2015. The 8-episode event will focus on Atwell’s character, who was featured in a prominent role in the 2011 release Captain America: The First Avenger. The series will focus on her continued efforts in the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization in the 1940’s.

With Halo: The Master Chief Collection set to release in just under two weeks for Xbox One, Microsoft has released a new trailer for the game that focuses on the upgraded Cinematics for Halo 2 Anniversary, which is included in the package. As you can see, a lot of work went into the game’s remastering, as it resembles more of a science fiction film than a video game. The Master Chief Collection will arrive on November 11th.

Last but not least, even though it’s not tied in to any current promotions, Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame stole the show on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon when he chose to rap to Blackalicious’ “Alphabet Aerobics.” The performance is a tour-de-force, namely because it speeds up as the song goes along – and Radcliffe keeps up with it gracefully.
