iPhones Owned By 40 Percent Of Teens: Piper Jaffray

According to a survey by Piper Jaffray, 40 percent of teens have iPhones, increasing from 17 percent in Spring 2011 and 34 percent in Spring 2012. 62 percent of teens indicate they want an iPhone as their next smartphone.

“We are reaffirmed that Apple remains the preeminent technology brand for teens,” Gene Munster, a senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray, wrote in the report. “Overall, we expect Apple devices to continue to expand in teen ownership, and we believe the company is set up well to benefit from loyalty among its younger user base.”

The report also said that the number of households with teens that own a tablet has increased from 34 percent in spring 2012 to 44 percent in fall 2012, with 72 percent of those who do own a tablet owning an iPad. The launch of the iPad mini might be yet another way for Apple to target this key demographic.

Spry Fox Settles With 6Waves

Spry Fox has settled out of court with 6Waves over a lawsuit where the developer accused 6Waves’ Yeti Town of directly copying Triple Town. 6Waves had acquired the Yeti Town developer shortly after the game was developed and 6Waves had been helping Spry Fox with moving the Facebook version of Triple Town to mobile.

6Waves had attempted to dismiss the charges earlier this week, though they were apparently willing to cut a deal after the judge brushed off their claims. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Seven Content Strategy Tips

If you’re not always looking for ways to better promote your product pages and increase sales, you’re not the brand manager most companies are looking for, according to Search Engine Watch. They’ve pulled together some tips to do just that, and while you may already do some of these it’s always good to make sure you’re not missing something.

1. Always Opt For Unique Content

Don’t just take content from somewhere else; if you do you’re not likely to get high search engine rankings. It’s all about unique content to get good organic traffic.

2. Encourage User Reviews

These are reassuring to other users, and they provide unique content to your site (see number 1).

3. Unique Images

If this is the only place people can find a certain image, they will beat a path to your web site.

4. Think About Including Videos

If you don’t have videos, look at adding some. Zappos has thousands of videos using staff members to demo shoes, and it’s boosted conversions by 10 percent.

5.Link To Related Content Elsewhere On Your Site

You can be a great traffic provider to other sections of your site, and provide more value to people at the same time.

6. Add a Product FAQ

Sometimes people can’t find the info they are looking for just by reading a product description, and this is another way to capture their interest before they leave a site.

7. Offer Additional Products

Look no further than Amazon to see this done well.

Study: Social Media Irresistible As Sex

A recent report administered by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business revealed that the urge to check social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest was eerily comparable to temptations to cigarettes and sex.

In the study administered in Germany, subjects between the ages of 18-85 years old were asked to inform researchers every thirty minutes if they felt a need from “strong” to “irresistible” to check their social communities on mobile devices and also rate their desire for other needs such as sleeping, drinking, smoking or sex. They found subjects rated wanting to check social media stronger than the rest.

Lead author of the study, Wilhem Hofmann stated, “Desires for media may be comparatively harder to resist because of their high availability and also because it feels like it does not cost much to engage in these activities, even though one wants to resist.”

The research stems from previous social study that poses the question, “Is social media destroying real-world relationships ”
